D.H.E. has extensive experience renovating more than 30 townhouses, each with its own set of structural and decorative challenges - complicated underpinnings, build outs of new extensions, pouring of new foundations, elevator installation, excavating and shoring up neighboring properties to allow more private yard space for our clients. We understand the hybrid nature of preservation and modernization, and work as a team with our clients and their architects and designers to deliver truly unique homes that will stand up to the test of time. We rebuild interior structures completely from cellar to roof with structural steel and pour concrete radiant heat floors throughout 5 story homes. We install new limestone and brownstone facades, rebuild stoops, and accomplish the restoration projects that are so frequently required for a townhouse renovation. Our array of highly skilled artisans have been working in restoration for decades and provide old world finishes like pulled in place plaster crown moldings and custom trim profiles.

Rather than assign carpentry work to outside contractors, D.H.E.'s in-house carpentry staff executes and delivers complicated designs and mitigates potential future issues. Our carpenters install windows, joists, trim, create templates, and a plethora of other on-site tasks. Having our own staff allows for flexibility, quality control, and a greater understanding of resource allocation all focused on the ability to deliver fine craftsmanship and accurate information during the construction process.

We work exclusively with our clients post-construction to provide regular maintenance and facilitate additional projects as homes are lived in and clients’ needs change in years to come. Having long term relationships is of utmost importance to D.H.E. and we work to establish these relationships from day one through transparency and honesty.

Each project is overseen by Douglas Cohen, Founder and Principal of D.H.E., and is assigned a full-time site supervisor and a project manager. This structure allows for strategic planning and coordination and leaves little room for error.
